Stimulating Collagen the Safe and Natural Way

We all know the benefits of collagen:

  • rejuvenating the skin by improving elasticity
  • providing your body with strength, structure, and support
  • replacing dead skin cells with new skin cells

So what does all this have to do with shaping sessions at MidMo Cryo?

Safe and Effective

In an earlier post, Results Are in: Neveskin Shaping Is Safe and Effective, we told you about a three-year clinical study commissioned by Artemis, the organization that brought you Neveskin. This is the remarkable cold and hot technology we use at the MidMo Cryo Spa to shape, and tone away those inches.

The study found Neveskin to be incredibly safe and exceptionally effective. This study indicated the Shape protocol would not lead to serious adverse effects seen with other cold temperature devices. Use this link to learn more about the study: Results Are in: Neveskin Shaping Is Safe and Effective.

The study has shed new light on the mechanism behind the effectiveness of the Neveskin protocols. The Artemis Chief Medical Advisor has reviewed these findings and has formed a working clinical hypothesis: the effectiveness of Neveskin is due to a collagen building process known as neocollagenesis

Neo-What?!

Neocollagenesis is the stimulation of new collagen production within the layer of the skin called the dermis. This process is a natural component of the body’s wound-healing mechanism.

Collagen is a vital protein, which is a key factor in the skin’s ability to become more elastic. It directly affects the laxity and aging of the skin.

Collagen production aids in strengthening the space between skin cells, which creates a “collagen corset” that aids in improving overall skin health, firmness, and toning.

In younger skin, a matrix of collagen forms a “scaffolding” for the skin.

As aging occurs, collagen breaks down causing a “dead space” that loosens the skin.

The Effects Of Aging

As aging occurs, the breakdown of collagen causes a “dead space” between the layers of the skin.  The skin becomes looser, which leads to a saggy appearance.

Clinical evidence shows that production of new collagen starts to slow in our late 20s to early 30s. Gradually we start to lose a minimum of 1% of our collagen each year.

Once new collagen is formed, it has a lifespan of 6 years. However, this doesn’t stop the effects of time (such as reabsorption caused by age, genetic predisposition, lifestyle, etc.) and therefore ongoing collagen maintenance is recommended.

Why Is Collagen So Important?

Collagen is a vital protein in the body and a key factor in the skin’s ability to become more elastic. It directly affects the laxity and aging of the skin. When collagen bands are strong between the skin layers, it prevents “dead space” that can lead to excess circumference or a rounder appearance.

By stimulating collagen production, our treatments safely tighten up skin, giving it a youthful appearance. You look younger without invasive and potentially harmful treatments like “fat burning.”

Results are in: Neveskin Shaping is Safe and Effective

We now have very exciting results from a three-year study of the Neveskin Shape protocol.

Artemis (the company that represents Neveskin in the US) carried out clinical studies in collaboration with a leading dermatological clinical research organization. The studies looked at safety and efficacy and how the treatment works.

Safety

The safety part of the study looked at the protocol when applied as directed and when applied beyond the recommended  limits (1.5 times the directed treatment). The efficacy study confirmed the effectiveness of the protocol when applied as directed.

The clinical research organization performing the study stated the following:

From the safety study, we conclude that both the manual and static treatment modes are safe for [clients] when administered using the standard parameters. We conclude that the device has very high safety for [clients] and is unlikely to cause any significant adverse effects when used as intended.

These findings were consistent for the standard treatment time and 1.5x treatment time (which was designed to test user error). Self-assessment by the participants showed that the treatment was very well-tolerated, with only minor negative feedback on the 1.5x dose of the static treatment.

Effectiveness

Participants in the efficacy study received 5-10 manual and static treatments.

Safety metrics were monitored during the study.

No cumulative negative effects were seen following repeat treatments. Skin caliper data and images show significant changes in circumference after a course of treatments.

Significant changes were seen after later treatments, indicating that a course of treatments is required to achieve clinically significant changes in circumference and body appearance.

The study showed a course of 5-10 treatments led to a statistically significant average reduction in circumference in the treated area:

  • Manual: 1.9” reduction on the abdomen, 2” reduction on each thigh
  • Static: 2.5” reduction on the abdomen, 0.9” reduction from each thigh.

High frequency ultrasound imaging showed significant changes in the depth and density of the epidermal-dermal tissue over a course of treatments. Clinically significant firming and toning of the skin were a key benefit.

Key Highlights

Incredibly safe – The study found that both the static and manual treatment modes are highly safe and unlikely to cause any significant adverse effects when used as intended.

Exceptionally effective – The study found that after a course of treatments, there was clinically proven toning, tightening, and firming of the skin as well as significant circumference reduction.

Advantage Over Other Cryo Treatments

The study indicated the Shape protocol would not lead to serious adverse events seen with other cold temperature devices. Robust clinical evidence indicates the Neveskin does NOT damage any living tissue, and is clearly not a cryosurgical device.

No surgery, no downtime, just incredible results in under an hour.

Neocollagenesis

The study suggests the hypothesis for the effectiveness of Neveskin is a process known as neocollagenesis. The neocollagenesis process is the stimulation of new collagen synthesis within the layer of the skin called the dermis.  To learn more, see our post, Stimulating Collagen Production with Neocollagenesis.
